Let’s imagine he was getting aspirin for a headache out of that cupboard, stooped down a little as he put the aspirin bottle down on counter, and then went up to close said cupboard. Ouch, right?
Both my daughter and I are short enough to avoid open cabinet doors (at least the top ones). What I hope to avoid in the future are stepladders. Last time I was up on one, I fell off, landed sideways on the steel step and broke my foot. My daughter has forbidden me to get up on one again. I agree.
For the most part I no longer have a problem with leaving drawers and doors open. The cats love to explore and I don’t need cat hair in my clean dishes and silverware.
And then there’s the dog who has a genius for finding the most-used pathway in the house and lying crosswise in it, and THEN, when you think you’ve navigated THAT obstacle, he raises his head and gets you anyway. sigh.
Husband goes upstairs from the kitchen where we watch TV at approximately 11:20 pm (after the weather report) to go on his computer (up there right now) and I do the dishes.
We have a small kitchen – cabinet to the left of the sink, cabinet to the right of sink, cabinet across from sink – all upper cabinets and one cabinet across which is a lower one. (The other lower cabinet and cabinet over stove are not used with anything used on a day to day basis) Before washing the dishes I put away the ones from lunch in the dryer rack. I often leave the cabinet doors open as I am standing in the middle of them and will not bang my head as I would need to walk past them to do so.
Husband will come back down for some reason, see them open and close all of the cabinets as “It’s dangerous to leave them open.” It is not dangerous for me as I don’t walk past the cabinet doors – it is convenient for me!

My wife has no idea how to close cupboard doors or drawers. There are left open quite often.

I’d have to hoist myself onto the kitchen counter to get that close to a cabinet. Which would be dangerous enough.

Disagree. Partially open drawers are the bane of everyone with a Y chromosome.

And yet, in 26 years, my husband still hasn’t learned to shut one. In all fairness, his Dad has the same issue. Love them both!

My wife keeps bringing that to my attention. Fortunately, the cupboard door I tend to leave open and can bump into, is two inches or so above my head.

That’s why I designed our kitchen with no overhead cupboards.

My problem is that blasted I-beam across the basement ceiling. I just plain cannot remember that thing!

The first thing I did when I moved into my house was remove the kitchen cupboard doors.
kathleenhicks62 almost 4 years ago
I am too short to have that happen.

It wouldn’t be so bad if I still had hair. Why does it always have to be the same spot?

I have actually stripped the doors off my overhead cabinets just because.
