    Frank was always grateful he had a statue on which to practice his kissing before he went out on a date.

    I can sort of understand the sculptor falling in love with his own creation – he basically carved his own porn. But why is the statue so hot to lock lips with a guy who’s been living in his art studio for the past two weeks as he sculpted at the behest of his gonads? He probably hasn’t showered in all that time.

    So, little man of flesh, you think you have the stones to make it with a statue? Can you be hard as a rock? Well, can you?

    His love morphed cold ivory to flesh, / and lewdly their lips did he mesh. / But the change, incomplete, / left this Gal with cold feet. / She slugged him for being so fresh. /// She tried, but she couldn’t escape, / as hands glided over her shape. / Quite soon he might see a / charge from Galatea: / attempting statuary rape. /// Pygmalion rethought his attack, / and slowly unhanded her rack. / A small cloud-borne putto / flashed him il cornuto / and fired a shaft in his back.

    We can’t take our eyes off her “seat”/ M. Gerome has performed quite a feat ./ Galatea’s a lass/ whose alluring “crevasse”/ has surely soiled many a sheet (…but what’s with that fish at her feet ?)

    It wasn’t Pygmalion’s fault/ he committed felonious assault/ his behavior was horr’ble/ but she lured him with marble/ when he had grown used to basalt..(granite, he could have shown more control !)

    I know our mythic history, King Arthur’s and Sir Caradoc’s;

    I answer hard acrostics, I’ve a pretty taste for paradox,

    I quote in elegiacs all the crimes of Heliogabalus,

    In conics I can floor peculiarities parabolous;

    I can tell undoubted Raphaels from Gerard Dows and Zoffanies,

    I know the croaking chorus from The Frogs of Aristophanes!

    Then I can hum a fugue of which I’ve heard the music’s din afore,

    And whistle all the airs from that infernal nonsense Pinafore.

    “Modern Major-General’s Song” from Gilbert and Sullivan’s 1879 comic opera The Pirates of Penzance.
