Okay, I understand Danae not wanting to let go of the map. But I can’t understand them staying with her after she’s demonstrated so profoundly she hasn’t a clue on reading it.
Well, you know what, I have to admit when I’m wrong:
I thought the artist was playing into old racial stereotypes by showing the Black character, Darrin, with overly-large lips.
But now I see Fern, the Asian-American character (according to Wikipedia) drawn with similar lips. I’m not aware of exaggerated lips being an Asian stereotype. After all, everyone has lips, and they are all of different sizes, within ethnicities as well as among ethnicities.
Don’t forget, this map was made by Kate. She is most definitely smart enough to lead her sister in a dizzying array of circles and twists. I’ll bet Kate was channeling Escher….
Anyone without special map training should routinely check in by phone with a potential rescuer every hour, if navigating solely by map. Yes, do not get out of phone range. In the Air Force, we had to go hiking for night navigation training, presumably so we could take turns at realizing how easy it was to get lost. (I’m not kidding.)

At this rate they will probably end up finding a real treasure.

I sort of believe this is pretty much the same process Columbus followed to “discover” America.

I think Danae and her gang should get together with Wallace the Brave and his pals. What fun!

Wouldn’t a modern kid just scan the map on their smartphone and then ask their AI to guide them to the treasure? Just askin’ for a friend…

What’s wrong? If you’re meant to stay right of the lighthouse, you want the lighthouse on your left!

Danae is simply saying “Don’t confuse me with facts.” Now where have I heard that, before?

Why yes, Darrin. You’re in a Wiley strip, hadn’t you noticed?
