Is Jef’s point that this is backwards? Normally you have an object or situation, and you try to think of a simile to describe it… Maybe it’s more fun this way! (I guess that was self-evident, and I usually deplore people who post to explain the point of a strip, only to destroy my enjoyment of it, but I thought someone else might have a different reaction to this one).

Maybe the octopus could use the suckers on its tentacles to give itself some relief similar to what scratching does for us.
