I guess we’re lucky it’s not called ‘hop year’.

Actually Three of four years should be leap years, They leap over February 29th directly to March First.

Why “leap”? That looks like a toad, not a leapin’ lizard.

Well, we’ll get a break from leap years in 2100, just to keep us on our toes.

I don’t get the term “leap” either: seems to me it should be “pause year”, “slow year”, “work an extra day year”.

Looks like we narrowly missed “jump year”, “spring year” or even “wart year”!

I don’t understand why we use this antiquated calendar. In modern times, can’t we do better? Then I’m reminded, we still use a measurement system, based on King Henry 1st, measurement from the tip his nose to the thumb of his outstretched hand (1 yard). Why? Also we still have daylight saving time, that saves nothing???

To be honest, I think of a frog or frogs “leaping” every time I hear mention of “leap year”. I think that came from a cartoon of some sort I saw as a small child, and it’s been deeply ingrained ever since. Not related to the note pad I once saw that said “Things to get hoppin’ on”, and showed frogs and a rabbit, and maybe another critter too.

A German brewmeister once suggested “Hops Year”, but it never caught on…
