I spent my professional career in education (state level, not classroom), and I always said that being a teacher is the 2nd hardest and 2nd most important job in the world.
The funny thing is – of all of the people involved he probably has among the least idea of what is best for him in the long run. No action is still a choice, so someone in the process has to make the call. That almost is the legal definition of a parent/guardian.
