Well it took them “months” to decide to keep the sofa. So I guess the joke is it took six more months to decide on a cover. I guess Arlo’s aside to the audience is just a gag about him not changing clothes?
I had a similarly large sofa reupholstered and when finished it was like a brand new one. The frame and springs were repaired where needed and all the cushions were reshaped and firm again . It took 2 or 3 months, but not six. It looks like they got a cheap job and a sloppy one.
So, true. I have an appointment this week to replace the seats on the dining room chairs – just to look at fabrics. Made it four months ago. No idea how long the wait will be to get the seats done.
Dear Mr. Johnson. You have lost a long time (20+ years) fan. You took my money in a kickstarter and did not deliver the rewards, nor did you communicate about what is going on. It’s been five years.
people are waiting months for their orders because of the lack of production people and drivers. my step-daughter has been waiting since March for her iving room furniture and delivery has been delayed twice!
Everything is delayed or not available and/or terribly overpriced in all manner of items. We need a new car as there is a problem with ours which may appear at any time and manufacturer is insisting it does not exist and won’t do a recall – even replacing the engine multiple times (as other people have done) does not solve the problem so we need to get rid of it before it dies.
Husband can find new cars he likes – but the dealers will have 1 or 2 of the car in stock, all loaded with things we don’t want and can’t afford and when he looks again the next day – those cars are gone.
Apparently cars are in short supply and selling for over the list price as there is a shortage of the computer chips needed to make them. Car sales fell over the pandemic, chips for same were not being ordered, so chip manufacturers switched to making other chips where were selling. Even used cars are in short supply and selling for inflated prices.
As to furniture – lumber has increased in price like crazy somewhere over double the price it was as people decided to get expansions done to their houses. Husband was looking at lumber for some project he has in mind and the prices were beyond anything sensible to pay.
Seems to me that 6 months later, as a joke on us, Arlo has dressed himself in the same clothes as in the first panel to back up his claim,“it only took 3 seconds.” Janis is amazed at his summer clothes, since she’s wearing weather-appropriate gear for the season. And, yes, there’s wlso the “real world” joke that the comics colorist took 3 seconds to change the color, as others have noted above.Like Janis’ outfit, there’s layers to this strip :)

I don’t get the joke. Is this a cultural reference? Something related to an American tg commercial ?

Goodbye, salmon; hello—what is that, forest green? (As in Horace Vendergelder’s shop’s shutters in “Hello, Dolly!”)

After kissing Janis on their newly upholstered couch Arlo said “Let’s take this upstairs.”
Janis blushed and coyly said “Ok”
Then Arlo said “OK, You grab one end and I’ll grab the other”

JJ will, from time to time, break the fourth wall. This sends me crashing to earth, with the fear that possibly Arlo and Janis, et. al., are not real.
