When is playing together not playing together? When Susie Derkins explains how you’re gonna play house with her … or rather how you’re gonna play house but not with her.
It’s funny how having blown off guys year after year, women get to a point in the late 30’s where it’s ’I’m now ready to have a baby’ only to find no one is really interested in them any more.
The men who could, hooked up with someone younger, when they were younger; the ones left are the ones that were blown off and not interested in the sucker punch to come, or lack the social skills to have gotten married earlier themselves.
FWIW, I married at 32…and I know several women who I was interested in, in my 20’s, who are still single at 50.
Well this girl is not worth it. At first when she is rejected as a friend she sulks for being rejected. But then the first thing she does when the boys feel sorry and allow her to play is she insults them for 10 seconds and then leaves! Who wants to hang around you guys!
This is about as close as Watterson allowed Calvin and Susie’s friendship to develop. Perhaps they were friendliest in the baseball story arc which was reprinted last year. Many pieces of fanfiction including “Hobbes and Bacon” assume that Calvin and Susie will marry when they grow up which seems likely as they are the nearest each other has to a human friend. I like to think that Hobbes will later be sharing a bed with Calvin and Susie.
My brother and I grew up next door to four sisters. I played house with them once. They insisted I be the dog. That lasted about two minutes and this “dog” flew the coop.

And now we realize why Calvin didn’t want to play with her at the start.

Calvin would prefer to play doctor and the nurse.

Of course, Susie would rather have a tiger for a husband than Calvin.

Girls never want to play anything interesting.

When I first went to where there were girls they wanted to play a game that can’t be described here, I was ten and so were they.

A slight feminist thing here. Too bad she had to be so insulting in panel 3.
At least she did not resort to physical violence here.

Did Susie get her idea from “Mr. Mom” (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085970/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0)?

At least Calvin can now identify his parents, Susie and Hobbes. His real parents are so dumb they don’t even know their own names!
