Sad to admit it, but I may have to trade in my bicycle for a tricycle. It is ironic, as toddlers we rode tricycles, then as older children we rode bicycles. Now that our sense of balance isn’t what it used to be, back to the trusty trike.
Totally agree. Got a great deal on a racing bike at a yard sale. Cleaned it up and went for a ride and ran into a bush. Oh, did I say I was 80 at the time?
Bicycles around here cannot ride on sidewalks – it’s illegal. They have to ride with traffic. If a car passes within 3’ of a bicycle it might mean a ticket/fine. And cars are not lowed in bicycle lanes. Most (of course not all) bicycle riders here aren’t jerks and do stick to the rules but there are still a fair number of drivers who will run bicyclists off the road – which is pretty much homicidal.
I could ride a bicycle once. Even got a Girl Scout merit badge for it. I bought a bicycle a couple of years ago and discovered that after 45 years, you do SO forget how to ride. Sold it to a coworker.
My problem with riding a bicycle is the bicycles. I am short – 5’1". Bicycles today (at least say from 10 years ago) are too tall for me and have handbrakes and gears (at least what we could find to buy when we did). I used to jump off the seat forward into the space between seat and handlebars as there was plenty of room and the bar curved very low on my bicycle, now the space is shorter and there is a straight bar – just lower than on a men’s bicycle. Problem is that, like so many things, I probably need a child’s bicycle.
Husband had a stationary bike in the basement – too tall for me to get onto and would need to lower the seat to reach the pedals.

The last time I rode a bike I could barely walk when I got back home. My knees objected to the workout.

Riding a bike hurts after about 3 minutes anymore. Even a stationary bike.

Whenever someone refers to a skill you don’t lose, I always tell them, “It’s like falling off a bicycle, something you never forget how to do.” :)
