Probably no one cares, but the stick with the marshmallow-looking stuff is a distaff, holding yarn. She is also holding a smaller stick with is her spindle, on which she has been spinning yarn (which is transferred to the distaff for storage). Spinning was a portable craft that many folks (mainly women, but there were some men) carried around to work on throughout the day before industrialization priced them out. I’m not sure how the distaff plays into the portability, but I know it is possible to walk and spin at the same time. (Members of my old knitting group used to do this.)

Pro tip: giving a woman a lawn ornament and a creepy blood red statue is not a surefire way to get her to go out with you.

I couldn’t catch a salmon large enough, or I would have carved it to full scale!

I only agreed to meet you here because I assumed you were married when you asked me to come meet “the little woman.”

Francoise. I’m afraid I made the Liberty torch too big! Maybe if you could make yours bigger we’ll both be happy.

The artist says this is the potter’s courtship. If so, this potter has skills way beyond throwing on the wheel.

Across the lake you will find a parasol in the water. You will want to keep your shoes off when you retrieve it.
