I’ve only flown once, back in 1994, when I went to visit my brother in Tennessee. At the time, I had a fear of flying. But on the day of the flight, I suddenly made up my mind that I would place my trust in the flight crew and do whatever they told me to do. I reasoned that if they weren’t competent enough to fly that jet, they wouldn’t be wearing those uniforms. It was a smooth flight.
Present day flying is a miserable experience compared to what it was in the late 70’s or 80’s.
If the journey isn’t more than, say, 1200 miles maximum one way I will happily drive it, take my time, eat reasonable food in a decent diner spotted from the road, mebbe pick up a local newspaper or two on the way. Also I can take as much in the way of luggage as I like.
On the other hand, if I want to pay through the nose, carry only limited luggage, be treated like cattle standing barefoot in a line, told what I can have in my luggage and, sometimes, spend more time trapped in the airport than I actually spend in the air…

Tough decision. The odds are you will make it just fine. If you do, head to those slot machines!

Once the border reopens we might fly to Vegas. I can use the hours.

Most dangerous part of a trip, statistically, is the drive to and from the airport.

I would suggest you not watch shows like Air Disasters on Smithsonian channel. While it is safe, it is scary the things that can go wrong.
