I use to work for a small cruise line when the supply ship was in town to load up for to re-supply the fleet. It was in a downtown area some homeless people would come around for a “handout” when the clerk said she had nothing but if you come by in the net day we need some laborers. For some strange reason there were no takers.
Good job Del Rey! I know it feels good to “Help” but it just makes it easy for people who want to be bums and junkies to continue to be bums and junkies! The people that have bad things happen and are out on the streets because of loss of job etc… are the ones who will take the work that is offered.
I’ve watched the supposedly homeless at the traffic light center islands. They take in a few dollars on each red. They may be making $40-$50 an hour just standing there.
Good job, Delray! I’ve been leery of panhandlers ever since I learned of the woman panhandling to get money to pay for her breast augmentation surgury.

Wouldn’t it be helpful to find out first if he’s a drug addict or a schizophrenic?
The Pro from Dover about 3 years ago
What does being schizophrenic have to do with not needing money? Schizophrenics need to eat too.

Teaching Kenny the difference between hand out and hand up?

If I gave a dollar to every schnook on the street, I wouldn’t have any left.

Better a leg up, than a hand out.

Uh, Delray, maybe you ought to find out some more about this guy before you send him over to the mission.
darcyandsimon about 3 years ago
Give him a piece of fruit. That’ll feed him for a moment or 2.

If he will accept that job. Too many do not want to work.

SEE?!? DELRAY knows how to treat the homeless: give them a JOB. WAY easier said than done, but that’s still the right path if you can do it.

Could she use 10,000 custodians (custodia??) ?
Can she pay them a living wage?
Does she provide free healthcare?
(Just wondering)

Maybe he doesn’t want to work. He won’t be a good custodian unless he wants to do the job.

Offer a street person a job… and nine times out of ten, they don’t want it.

As a formally homeless person this is exactly right. If you want to help the homeless give to the Salvation Army
