As a teen I paid to play one county fair midway game and lost. In college I took a summer trip to Las Vegas and placed one bet and lost. Never did either again. Cheapest and most valuable lessons I ever got. Money well spent, Ernie.
The dollar bill changers at DFW airport would keep 5¢ as a “courtesy fee.” This went on for about 5 years until somebody noticed the handmade signs warning people about this and the less than projected amount of dollar bills in the machines. Governor Richards put stop to the “courtesy fee” very early in her tenure.

It’s the first lesson one learns. Make a choice – accept the results. No return for crying about it.

Lesson to be learned, a fool and his money are soon parted. Unfortunately, Earnest needs to have the lesson explained to him.

I’ve saved thousands of dollars over the last 40 years by never buying a lottery ticket. I am now retired and well off financially.
