Someone recently said, ruefully, that when she was little she marveled at the steadiness and wisdom of grownups, who seemed so unlike kids in their understanding of how the world worked. But when she became a grownup herself, she found that it really was hardly different from being a kid. And if anything the uncertains and anxieties were even more numerous and scary.
