I would have thought Dad would be into something harder than Miller High Life considering that he has to raise Calvin. I would have ventured Mom and Dad would be into something with a very high proof, hopefully top shelf if it fits within their budget.
On US TV beer commercials like Miller’s tend to emphasize work and show their product as something you’ve earned. Canadian commercials, on the other hand, tend to emphasize play and having a good time…
When I were a lad, I saw all those ads on TV for beer and was fascinated. One time I was out with my family and saw a bar sign advertising beer. I said something along the lines of “I want to drink some beer.”
Mother said I’d have it with some steak.
That stopped me. I was a very picky eater growing up.
Things have changed over the years. I have no problem eating meat now (beyond my teeth problems). I never did get into alcoholic beverages, though.
The actual cost to brew a mass produced beer and a craft beer is negligible. The main difference is hops. Miller and other mass produced beers likely have little/no hops which are responsible for the taste of the beer. On average craft beers have $.53, mass $.05 per six pack for hops. Malt cost are $.65 and $.16 for a six pack. Then the distributor and retailer will each mark it up 2x/3×. Craft beer is marked up more since people confuse price/quality and expect craft beers to cost more.
I’ve always wondered what aliens who intercept our TV signals will think about alcohol commercials. You are allowed to pour, praise, wave and even sniff the product but not drink it.
You don’t get “Miller Time” until you’re 21. Of course you can play with M-16s, Hand Grenades and Nuclear weapons when you’re 18 so, maybe that’s just the way the we mess with you.

My friend asked for a bud light and I asked if he’d rather have a beer. Talk about receiving the evil eye

No son of mine is going to drink at 7:35! That’s after happy hour. The prices go up.

If you’ve got the time, We’ve Got The Beer. Miller Beer.
Miller Tastes too good to hurry through.
But when it’s time to relax, Miller stands clear. Beer after beer.
If you’ve got the time (you got the time), We’ve got the Beer. Miller Beer

My dad was more of a Bud Light drinker back then so “Miller time” was lost on me. Or maybe I never saw the commercials, IDK.
