Youāre also a Plugger if you remember your mom ironing shirts. āPermanent Pressā debuted in 1964, an invention of chemical researcher Ruth Rogan Benerito. Originally, it was a blend of two parts polyester and one part cotton. I remember getting started on ironing doing my Dadās handkerchiefs. When I could keep them āsquareā, I graduated to shirts. We didnāt ādoā the sheets. We hung them on the line. They always smelled great! [If you try that most places now, you definitely donāt get that same āfresh airā smell.]
If we wanted something, we better have our statement fully thought out before we spoke. My mom was reasonable, but she wanted all the relevant information in all one shot. She did not want to have to drag it out of us. If she needed to ask more that two questions, the answer was usually ānoā. If we wanted to go somewhere, we needed to provide ā why, where, with whom, when, how would we get there (asking for a ride was ok), how would we get back (again asking for a ride was ok), were we paying for ourselves or would we need money (and how much), how long would we be gone, and, if needed (depending on age) would an adult be with us? She wanted us to Think things through and make sure we really wanted to go. There were times that once we thought things through we realized we really DIDNāT want to go. LOL
Been there. Done that. Mom had the āBecauseā down cold. Forget about asking Pop. His ex-Marineās āNOā was enough. The same line worked just fine on our kids and grandkids.

Keep arguing with your mother like that during her ironing and sheāll distractedly burn a hole through the shirt.

Some understandable but dangerous (very risky) responses:
āBut mom, I asked for one GOOD reason.ā
āBecause why?ā
āBut all the other kids are going.ā

We raised our girls better. They got bored to death with the explanations, but they knew why.

My mother always said āBecause I said soā in such situations. Rather emphatically, in fact.
