Imagine the COVID-19 or Spanish flu outbreaks at the time of the original publishing. Mom would definitely be contagious; Dad and Calvin would have to stay home quarantined (much to Calvin’s delight of staying home from school).

It is difficult to live in the same house without being exposed.

And it ain’t easy be a mom to a kid

Mom must be deathly ill to stay in bed like that. Most moms I know just try to soldier on until they get better or end up in the hospital.

I wasn’t sure this was Calvin until the last frame.

Think about it, Calvin: if you catch Mom’s illness, you’ll get to stay in bed, no school, and Mom will wait on you hand-and-foot (all the while grumbling).

When we moved into our new house, my adult son came to visit. We were out on the back porch having a beer when he pulled one of these on me. He told me that he appreciated all the things my wife and I did for him as he was growing up.

It took three hours for the swelling in my head to go down enough to get back indoors.

As much as you dislike school, I thought you might want to catch what Mom has, Calvin…

The one, brief, shining moment that makes it all worth while.

A rare show of affection between Calvin and mom. Occasionally we get to see that his parents do love him, even Dad in his own gruff “character building” way.

I’ve seen this, its a bit old

For a brief, fleeting second…… just maybe….. there was…… no. Not happening!

Caring has it limits.
