Wow. I wish I had a wife (or girlfriend) who would play along like that. You could get a lot of kisses in. (I think we all wish for something similar.)
Yesterday something in conversation occasioned me to do some quick guesstimation and I pointed out “it is midnight in the Canary islands.” I was probably wrong but I might have been right.
For Y2K, the entire IT department had to spend NYE at the NOC. This despite three years of prep and being one of the last time zones in the world to hit midnight. 22 rounds of ain’t nothin’ happening.
Give me a kiss to build on and my Imagination will thrive upon that kiss. Sweetheart I ask no more than this, a kiss to build a dream on. Sung by Louis Armstrong.
This date is skipped altogether in Kiribati as the Phoenix Islands and Line Islands change time zones. The International Date Line bisected the island republic into two halves with the western part of the republic 24 hours ahead of its eastern part. To put an end to this situation, the president of Kiribati announced that on 1 January 1995 the International Date Line would henceforth run along the eastern boundary of the republic, thus eliminating December 31, 1994.
I was on a crew flying an airlift mission to Japan on new years eve. We celebrated the New Year in-flight about a 1/2 hour before crossing the IDL, making it was New Years Eve once again. We minimum (12 hr) crew rested in Japan and began flying east. We celebrated the New Year in flight once again, just before crossing the IDL.

How many hours before it’s Midnight at home?

It’s good to observe the New Year in various time zones. That way, you can just celebrate when it’s New Year in Rio de Janeiro and then go to bed.

Arlo knows they’ll be asleep by 10 pm in their time zone so he needs to get things started early.

The sun’s always over the yardarm somewhere for drinking purposes, I like this use of time zones.

I used to do something similar, but now at 70 years old we just kiss hourly all day, with only one ‘Grand Finale’.
Happy New Year to all!
