In Japan, tofu is tofu. Itâs not imitation anything. Itâs just tofu. Top with horseradish and chopped chives, a dash of soy sauce (not too much) and serve.
My step-mother was Seventh Day Adventist and they had a no meet policy. They had a âmeat substituteâ that tasted like *******. Where I say anything Iâd get in trouble.
Tofu is a lifesaver if you have a family member who is allergic to milk. Mashed silken tofu is a perfect substitute for ricotta in lasagna, among other uses. I used to sprinkle it with a tiny bit of sugar and Middle Kiddle ate it for cottage cheese.
I have been asking this for ages! WHY? Youâre vegetarian/vegan for a reason. Itâs a bit hypocritical, kind of like only being a vegan during the week and an omnivore on weekends!
I have often wondered (never aloud), why it is that my vegetarian and vegan friendsâ children miss so much school and have so many health and behavior problems. It canât all be âthe sugarâ (although that is what the parentsâ claim).
Once youâve tasted tofu, you stop wondering. I once made a tofu cake for a bunch of vegetarians. Everyone told me how wonderful it was ⊠nobody asked for a second piece. :)
And now theyâve come up with âBeyond Burgers,â which even (supposedly) ooze red stuff when you cook themâŠnever mind, Iâll stick with regular old cannibal burgers, thank you very much! (âNew meatier tasteâ? wottheâŠ)
One of the local burger chains here has a âblack bean chipotle burgerâ that I find is really quite tasty. They also serve a bacon cheese burger that is also quite good. Iâve been known to get one of each. I wouldnât want to live off one or the other though. If I want plant, Iâll eat plant. If I want meat, Iâll eat meat. Not some plant made to taste like meat. I mean if you are opposed to eating meat, why do you want your plant to taste LIKE it?

vegetarians and carnivores (or more likely vegans and omnivores) sure have it hard to get along with one another

Tofu, or not tofu, that is the question:
Whether âtis nobler in the mind to guzzle
The things and sorrows of awwwfoolish torture,
Or to take arms against a sea of tastelessness
And by opposing end them. To spiceâto eat,
No more; and by a burp to say we end
The belly-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That meat is heir to: âtis a consummation
Devoutly to be wishâd. To spice, to eat;
To burp, perchance to seem filledâay, thereâs the rub:

When they get meat substitute to taste as good as the original (that is, I canât tell the difference) and it costs LESS, then Iâll consider it.

I eat plant-based meat. I just run the plants through a cow first instead of a chemistry lab.

We have been told for years to eat the less processed food. Fake meat is seriously processed, steak is not.
ctolson about 3 years ago
Look up how they make non-meat patties, etc, taste like meat and what all is in it and the vegetarians and vegans would be appalled.
david_42 about 3 years ago
I have a cookbook with over 1000 vegetarian and vegan recipes. Not one has fake meat in it and most donât have tofu or TVP.

I like tofu, one stir fry restaurant I frequent does a fine job with it being sautĂ©ed with my favorite veggies⊠and chicken! If itâs tasty I eat it but not instead of for me.

The eternal question? But, itâs all about marketing.. you can sell literally anything if you rebrand it to something known to be sexy or tasty.

It has to be made to taste like something, it tastes like nothing already.

Remember, even meat that eats meat and those that donât, eat plants, so everything we eat IS plant based.

I like tofu best when it tastes like garlic or other seasonings, not like meat.
