Act 8:36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? Act 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.Â
It’s so much more likely it’s the other way around… small woman gets married to a larger, overbearing man who had been nice during courting but turns out to think he owns her after the marriage is sealed.
As a lapse catholic, how dam stupid of the priest to make that mistake! Why should be up to the couples rectify the error, just get Pope Frankie to issue a degree to verbalize the lapse baptisms
This made me think of a very old Dear Abby letter:
Many years before, as a bride about to say “I do,” the letter writer spoke up when the preacher asked if there were any objections. She said, “I won’t marry him, because he promised he wouldn’t take another drink, and just now I smelled liquor on his breath.” All this in front of a big crowd, big church wedding, etc., but she said her father backed her up completely. Fast forward to the present: she wrote that she’d been very happily married to a different man for the last 50 years.
Moral of the story (to the groom in the cartoon): “Get out while you still can, man!”

Based on recent news about the wording of baptism rites being valid, it is time for him to check the priest’s wording carefully.

She was born late, and graduated late. Now if she is late for her own funeral, she’ll have a complete set!

My response would’ve been: “So… I’m outta here.”
(I grew up with that attitude in the house; I neither need nor want it around any other part of my life.)
