Many weeks, we buy a bunch of āsalad turnipsā at the farmers market. About $3. Sometime in the next few days, I process them into a dozen little round turnips for my weekās salads and a double handful of triple-rinsed greens. Takes a bit more than 1/2 an hour. Then I steam the greens and eat āem for lunch with some butter and lemon juice. Very satisfying, tasty. But it takes nearly an hour from start to finishā¦ and I eat my bowl of spinach greens in about 3 or 4 minutes. I can buy frozen greens, microwave them hot and serve āem with butter and lemon, so how can it be worth it to start from scratch? Because, I kind of LIKE working to make a treat for myself (spouse could share if she wished, but says āKeep those nasty things AWAY from me!ā). And it IS significantly better than the easy way. The same sort of calculation applies to pretty much everything if you cook for your own consumption, including (I presume) coffee. (I donāt drink it: It smells okay, but the taste is horrrrrrribleā¦ for me.)
I make mine at home with a Keurig using a reusable basket/cup and a decent quality medium grind dark roast. It beats the pants off of McD and Tim Hortons. As for the Starbucks of this world, if Iām going to drop double digits on a quaff, itās going to be golden and foamyā¦
Last year I decided to spoil myself with an automatic coffee maker ā wake up and itās ready. Starbucks? I treat myself when traveling a few times a year

The same people who complain about those that drink an expensive cup of coffee drive around in $60,000 pickups.

Plenty of time to stand in line at barista-bucks though.

Who said life was too short for instant coffee? Where did that even come from?

Even though I donāt like the taste, I still know that you can do other things while coffee is brewing
