I went to a grooming session…er a lecture…where I heard propaganda and lies about how 10% of men are gay (that is now disproven). I met a 20 year old pedarast on the ski slopes who appealed to my base instincts and groomed – er encouraged - me to act on them so he could have a new “buddy”.
This is so sad. It is saddest to see a comic strip use this platform of a family comic read by young teens to push this behavior and attempt to normalize it. But grooming has been happening for decades from such platforms.
“Talk some sense into him” ? What is her problem??? If my son told us (yes I have a son) that he is gay, we’d accept and love him just the same as we always have. Isn’t his happiness important? Like I said yesterday – geeeeezzzz!!!! :P
I can understand this mother’s feeling as if she lost her expectations of having a son marry and gave grandchildren. But it also shows she never really knew her son. I have read many heartwarming stories of children who came out to parents who said, “I know, dear. I’ve just been waiting for you to figure that out.” How lucky those children are! But this comic reflects a pervasive attitude in the 1980s.
The lecture thing worries me although he is at least old enough to make a decision. Not like what is going on in several schools nowadays, teaching it in fourth grade and below.
This reminds me of when Annie’s daughter was born with 6 fingers on each hand. “Elly, what did I do wrong?” She thought she caused it because she wasn’t baking homemade whole wheat bread and squeezing fresh orange juice from organically grown oranges.

I think the “one in ten” came from a certain Dr. Alfred Kinsey and has since been updated to a more accurate percentage.

The Kinsey report’s figure of 10% of men as being gay is now widely seen as an overestimate…
