I always felt that which was optimist & pessimist was if you wanted what was in the glass or were being forced to drink it – think of the stuff before a medical test. I read a quote someone mentioned that their grandmother said when asked that= depends if you are the one pouring or drinking.
Yesterday my wife spilled a large container of very aromatic Vietnamese soup on the kitchen counter, and it ran down into four drawers soaking cutlery, dish towels, etc., etc., plus the floor mat.
I’ve always hated this amateur psychiatrist example of optimism/pessimism. If you have a 20 ounce glass and you need 10 ounces half full is perfect. If you have a 10 ounce glass and you need 20 ounces full isn’t good enough. The real question is how much do you need.

I see the glass at twice the necessary capacity. Try a juice glass.

Me is realist. That glass is not really half empty for it is half full of water and other half full of air.

It’s like having a realistic positive attitude …
…. as in “I’m positive things will go wrong.”

Not half full or half empty. The glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Would it disturb your metaphysical world if I told you someone stole my glass?

An engineer looks at such a situation and says, “You have twice as much glass as you need.” :)

This cartoon isn’t too slow or too fast; it’s just half-fast.

Me, I see the glass as completely full: half with water, the other half with air.
