I remember college in the 70s. In the spring I sat down for an art history final when a girl sat next to me dressed like Janis. Not as skinny – Long hair, short shorts, and revealing halter top. Lost all concentration but somehow passed with a 90. We has lunch after the exam – I have no idea what I ordered. She agreed to go out to the movies next week. I picked her up at her apartment that warm spring evening wondering what she would wear. A nice but conservative dress that almost reached her knees.
When I was a college kid, I always wondered why they were called “halter tops.” To my well-trained eye, it didn’t look as if they halted much of anything.
during the early 70s I was in southeast asia, still in my teens and the dating scene was nothing like A&J. more of a financial transaction than any romance. closest I can get is the scene in FMJ just after the basic training where Joker and Rafterman are make a deal.
Is that one of those big heavy long-arm paper cutters? They made them in gray? My dad’s was green, with a 1×1″ grid on the top so you could measure what you were cutting. It could go through quite a few pages if you were strong enough.
Janis is a genius. She traveled back in time, payed off her debt, and thus didn’t have to interact with loser Arlo and she married the College quarterback.

C’mon, Janis! You should have said (to Arlo): " … had to borrow $40 from a… kind guy". Look at the face of the weird hippie in the last panel! :D

I remember that one. Father’s Day. We just had sons so I could relate.

Love Arlo’s expression in panel 4!

Love the cut off shorts and the tie on halter top. Jimmy nailed the ‘period’ clothing. Janis is a real cutie! He can still ask her out for pizza.

I knew a woman whose parents offered a new stereo if she didn’t marry her husband. They offered her a much better deal than what she chose.

By this recall and hippies, this would have be around 1970 give or take 5 years. Makes you them around 70ish.

This is a bit of an anachronism. There were no electronic transfers in 1970.
