The other 50% of chance is snow.

In some places there will be rain, clear and sunny, snow, calm and windy all in the same day.

It’s always 50 – 50 —either it will, or it won’t. Also, a 50% chance of rain isn’t negative – if you like to eat, you gotta have rain sometimes.

This is weird. Here in Canada I have never heard of a 50% chance of rain forecast. Sometimes it is 40% chance, sometimes it is 60% chance and sometimes they say it is starting off at 40% in the morning changing to 60% in the afternoon. But you’ll never hear them say in between is 50% chance.

So… if it rains, was the forecast accurate?

If they live in a region of the country that has been suffering with drought conditions as I do, a 50% chance of rain would be seen in a positive light.

It’s freakin’ snowing in Ottawa this morning.

To paraphrase Martha Stewart… “Rain…, it’s a good thing.”

Many years ago, on Prince Edward Island, a tiny tornado (windstorm, whatever) touched down near Charlottetown and wiped out a swath of trees. The local radio station’s news report had earlier predicted a perfect warm and sunny day. For the next two weeks, after the embarrassment, each forecast, no matter how perfect the day was, ended with: “and the possibility of severe isolated winds.”

it’s when they say that there’s a 50% chance of armageddon that i start to get nervous…

The radar is picking up a line of thunder showers.

It’s also picking up a squadron of Russian ICBMs.

So I wouldn’t sweat the thunder showers.

I agree with that whole heartedly.

Gladys evidently doesn’t have a garden or rain would be a Godsend. It also provides a soothing effect for sleep assuming it comes at night.

50 50 means they don’t know.

A 50% chance of rain means that about ½ of the forecast area will see some precipitation.

Whatever. Half of adult conversation centers around the weather. But putting a positive spin by the weather service. That’s the adult conversation part of the situation. Just the facts is all they need…..

There is a 100% chance that the forecast is wrong.

I kinda agree with putting a positive spin, I just wonder what she would know about positive spins.

Around here, rain is good news.

It’s kind of like the difference between “partly sunny” and “mostly cloudy”.

Gladys thinks that’s negative? She should have to put up with the guy here on WGAL-TV. He seems to be cheering for the bad weather. It’s one thing to tell us the weather in a calm voice but this guy “grinds” on the bad weather to the point one can get paranoid about stepping outside.

It’s why all the TV stations have web sites with hourly up-dates….they may have been wrong at 6 am, but may be closer at 6 pm.

Gladys, in California, your last comment would be the negative one. We have had .70 inches for the entire year.
