Think it’ll take at least another 5 years of reprints, but the big turn on BD’s story remains one of the most remarkable events in this strip’s long history including how the change to his historical character feature was unexpectedly and amazingly humanizing.
I didn’t even realize Ray was living with the Ds. I thought he just hung around a lot. Live and learn.
My theory on B.D.‘s surname is that it’s one that a lot of people found difficult to pronounce, and he decided to simplify things by shortening it as much as possible, down to just one letter, making the family name “D.” Samantha D, Boopsie D, B.D. No clues on his first name AFAIK.
Celebrating life often mean remembering those times I didn’t die. Those who know, know. Those who don’t, are blessed. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Off topic! Today is a memorable day in the life of Zonker. It was 50 years ago today that Zonker and Bernard (Bernie) discovered a puddle on the property at their new commune. Zonker christened it “Walden Puddle”!!!
Here’s to all of the military personnel who were injured in battle yet lived to celebrate their Alive Days – and to their compatriots, especially those in the military medical services who got them there.
My brother was in the last Iraq war. He was in the Navy. Got out without a scratch. Then after he got out, went back to Kuwait to work in a friend’s company.
Going to work one day, the car he was in was hit by a truck from a Kuwait company. It sheered the top off their car, the man beside him had his head taken off, and the other man died as well. He couldn’t remember what exactly happened for a long time, which we took as his brain protecting him while he healed.
It took years for any compensation, because of course, Kuwaiti oil.

You don’t have to be in a war to have an Alive Day. Mine’s August 18th.

No, BD, you let Ray move in because he’s an Army buddy and a good guy, and he needed your help.

Tinder dates? It’s where sexual obsession usually turns to comic hijinks, the loss of one’s self-respect and money.Just ask Quagmire on Family Guy.
