Save the planet from tiny slivers of soap.

Done this all my life. My parents were children of the Depression and lived through the rationing of WWII. Honestly, I thought everybody did it.

You’re a plugger if you still use bar soap instead of some kind of liquid in a fancy pump.

A soap sized terrycloth bag with a drawstring closure does the trick.

My mom was good at that. NOTHING was wasted in our house. My parents were also Depression Era young adults.

I prefer liquid hand pump soaps. Much more sanitary.

I buy bar soap that’s hollow in the center. That way you don’t have any of those slivers left over.

When I was a kid in the mid 50’s, my parents ran a small motel. All of the leftover little bars of soap were collected from the rooms, ground up in a meat grinder, and turned into big bars for the family to use.

I used to do that, but now can’t think of the last time I used a bar of soap. Mrs finally threw away bar bar of Lava I had because I seldom used it.

My Grandmother did, too. Oh, and my Great Grandmother made her own lye soap in a big black iron pot – made with pig lard. Wow !

I’ll have to try that. All my old slivers wind up piled up on the soup depression on the side of the bathroom sink.

Just get both of them damp and rub them together, then give them a nice squeeze.

Like Dani Rice – child of children of the Depression and have also done this all my life. Husband is a similar child, but lately it annoys the heck out of him when I do this – he says it just falls apart, so I just keep the tiny pieces on the side and use them as they are. (For awhile early in the pandemic I was using the liquid with soap mixed into it that forms under the soap in the soap dish to conserve soap use.)
