There’s a tip in there somewhere…..

He’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger TODAY…

This something relatively new? I spent 13.5 years in the Military and never heard of it. Of course that was also ages ago in the last century.

He only thinks that he will thank her for her service. He might change his mind once he gets the burger.

I find it rather strange to have people thank me, (I’m ex-U.S. Navy). In the 70s, people spat at me and called me baby-killer, (and that was one of the more polite names yelled at me). And I never did served in Vietnam. The U.S. did back then as it does now have World Wide military interests besides SE Asia. And now they thank me for my service. Strange.

MARVELOUS to see someone remember Armed Forces Day! I was there for the first one! It was pretty spectacular! Prior to that – each of the services had a day, celebrating the creation of their particular branch – Army, Navy, Marines. I was there when the Air Force was first created. I was there when the newly minted Air Force carried out Operation Hay Lift because blizzards across the Great Plains had paralyzed several Plains states and so much livestock perished during the storms that there was serious concern that there would be a meat shortage – not only in the U.S., but also in the countries which depended on U.S. livestock for their meat supplies.

The best way to thank a serviceman/woman is to make sure they have all the resources they need to adapt into civilian life when they come home.

I do not seek, nor particularly want a “thank you for your service,” but when I get one my response is “it was my honor.”

any time i see a service plate on a vehicle, i leave a card saying on one side-“thank you for your service” and on the other side it says “from a grateful American” i’m sorry if that offends some, but i will keep doing it and reorder cards for the third time in several years!!p.s.—same with a person wearing a service hat.

~ Disabled disenfranchised vets need to contact Disabled American Veterans (DAV) for help. Their service officers are trained to navigate the system to get you the benefits you are entitled to. I occasionally see stories in DAV magazine where they have helped people get benefits where records were spotty and so had been denied any benefit and for others gain an increase in disability rating.

You might want to ask what country he served. The coat/shirt color combo suggests the old AG344 uniform, but the stars, patches, etc. look like a third-world country. ;>)
