I am glad that I live in a time when we can repair and replace body parts. My quality of life is much better with my artificial knee, new lenses in my eyes, repaired rotator cuffs, reattached tendon in my elbow and the 100 joules across my chest that got my hear beating properly again.
This does not count all the chemicals I put into my body to make the medical numbers look good and ward off any number of bad conditions my body may develop and those dead viri that prevent or at least minimize other diseases that I might catch.
Of course I have medical insurance. Doesn’t everyone?
If you use your 50’s to prepare for your 60’s, the age of ajdustments will be easier to take. In my 5th decade, all my carelessness about weight, intake, exercise, etc began to broadcast a clear and unambiguous message, i.e., change your lifestyle or suffer. That was 3 decades back. To get here took a lot of work, some medical advice and help, and the love of my best girl, for all of which I am thankful.
But making those decisions and changes doesn’t work without your own determination and good, solid input from reliable medical sources, and emotional support. Skip either and the golden age will become a series of roller coaster style ups and downs greased by sheer frustration, hypertension, and high medical bills, insurance or not.
Like the man said, Life ain’t no easy gig. You gotta find the beat. So, whoever and wherever, best wishes and prayers for each of you in coming years.
A bit of advice about the cataracts. When it comes to lens removal and replacement make a very important decision. I live 90% of my life up close; cooking, sewing, computing, reading etc. I chose to have replacement lenses that reflect this and only wear glasses when driving or other mid-to-long distance situations. Even if you aren’t naturally near-sighted you can do away with reading glasses completely if you request lenses for near-sight. Be sure your cataract surgeon is aware of your choice.
Just yesterday my 87 year old mother said that of her 97 year old sister. They were talking to their older sister at the time. She will be 103 in July.

Get the divorce now! You do not want to be old with a guy who has his attitude.
