Most things are impossible until someone does them.

I have zero patience for people who say, Oh, I can’t do that because I don’t see anybody who looks like me doing that. The problem with that is that, taken to its logical conclusion, we’d all be sitting around in the trees in central Africa saying, yes, it does look like there’s a lot of food down on the ground, but I don’t see anyone else down there, and sitting in the trees was good enough for my grandfather, and his grandfather, so it’s good enough for me.

Despite that it’s basically just running, there are new techniques, new equipment (Nike shoes are a more modern example) and perhaps the most important, the psychology of “breaking an understandable record.” Nobody worried about whether they could shave a quarter second off the record… UNTIL the record got to a half second more than four minutes. THEN it was harder.

Now let’s discuss Mt. Everest.

Never look back

The lesson I see: If you spend your whole life running then running is your whole life.

The thing about them thinking a 4-minute mile was impossible is that the minute is an arbitrary measurement, not an actual barrier.

Frankly, my stomach is getting a cramp. This is like watching Groundhog Day.

Bwaaahahahaha! The biggest laugh I’ve gotten out of this strip in ages was thinking about Caulfield actually “absorbing a lesson.” As if that little sociopathic know it all would ever!

interesting that Frazz uses the term side stitch. I told my hubby that I was getting a stitch in my side and he looked at me funny He calls it a cramp. I told him that it felt like getting poked with a needle, that is why it is called a stitch.

Bannister said he had to win that race, or his barrier break would mean nothing.

I usually detest hearing the phrase “They said it couldn’t be done.” In most cases, people were rooting for the person to accomplish it.

It’s time to kick Caulfield to the curb for a while. He gets way to much air time.

The frontal lobe has nothing to do with intelligence since it deals with deciding what comes out of your mouth. Last to form first to start shrinking.
