It’s still a valid question. Why do they move around so randomly? I mean I suppose, if you don’t know where the food is, one direction is as good as another, but why so many directions in the same minute? They all look like me walking around at a nudist beach.
Reminds me of the scene in the movie “Stand by Me,” based on Stephen King’s novella, The Body, where four boys sitting around the campfire earnestly consider the question: “Alright, alright, Mickey’s a mouse, Donald’s a duck, Pluto’s a dog. What’s Goofy? . . . Goofy’s a dog. He’s definitely a dog. . . . He can’t be a dog. He drives a car and wears a hat. . . . Oh, God. That’s weird. What the h### is Goofy?”

Sadly, if Calvin tries to talk to another kid about something like this, they’ll just think he’s not of this earth and run away.

My guess is that makes it harder for predators, such as swallows, bats, and dragonflies, to grab them.
