Can you imagine Snoopy referring to the Peanuts kids by name in his thought bubbles? I canât quite explain why, but it would appear weird; Schulz deliberately didnât have Snoopy do that so as to maintain a barrier between him and the human characters.
I donât think Snoopy will lower himself to actually communicate with mere humans. Snoopyâs line that âCharlieâ is too complicated compared to âround headed kidâ is a dodge to avoid the real response of his own superiority and prejudice. Everything about Snoopyâs demeanor bespeaks of a superior feeling amonst others.
In early years (when the strip was still finding its footing), Snoopy did know Charlie Brownâs and everyone elseâs name, but when Sally became a little girl, he forgot all the kidsâ names.

If Snoopy calls Charlie Brown âthe round-headed kidâ, what does he call Linus? âThe other round-headed kidâ?

Thatâs a sad excuse, Snoopy!

To be fair, his first and last name does equal 3 whole syllables; a bit much for a dullard like Snoopy.

Linus acts angry but (or because?) he forgets Charlie Brownâs name too: https://www.gocomics.com/peanuts/1966/07/01

Children and pets, dogs especially, have a special talent about communication.

A white kid named âBrownâ? Yep, thatâs âcomplicatedâ.

Snoopy not appreciating his good life reminded me of one of my favorite Peanuts cartoons:

This is why he yells âCurse you Red Baron !â, not, âCurse you Von Richthofen.â

Snoopy, the round headed kid deserves to be seen in a better perspective, for all that he does for you.

Beagles are an interesting breed. Theyâre pretty smart about some things, but utterly daft about other things.

Snoopy can remember âthat round-headed kidâ but âCharlie Brownâ is too complicated?
