Okay, so Big Hand Luke was “joking” about the bet. At least that makes sense. With the old writer he would have been serious. So Bethany has a thing for Gil? A guy she apparently sees only once a year when he gets his award? Or did they have a fling, and that’s why Mimi and the kids are missing? Probably not or their earlier dialog wouldn’t make sense. And speaking of not making sense, what makes less sense than the typical dialog in Mopped Up Thorp?
