The extremely bright reds used on the TV news weather maps are eye catching. Next summer it will be animated to produce even more guilt.

No guilt feelings around here. Weather is weather. It is more a feeling of poverty because of the $Trillions being spent with all our efforts being negated by the new coal-fired generating plants that continue to be built in Asia.

Houses that were miles away from the ocean years ago in NC are now falling in the ocean and Miami, for one, is spending millions to raise the infrastructure. But hey, that’s all normal, right? /s

I look at some of the climate-crisis-denying comments above and shake my head that, this deep into the 21st Century, we still have people who apparently don’t understand the difference between weather and climate. Here’s the deal:

     • Weather is short-term; climate is long-term.

     • Weather is individual measurements; climate is average measurements.

     • Weather is what you get; climate is what you expect.

     • Weather is umbrellas; climate is ice ages.

     • Weather is the city council; climate is the United Nations.

     • Weather is 3 minutes on TV; climate is doctoral dissertations.

     • Weather comes and goes; climate just keeps on coming.

     • Weather change kills off individual plants and animals; climate change kills off entire species.

     • Weather is Angry Birds; climate is The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.

Any American adult who doesn’t understand this by now must be:

    1) a social promotion from a special-ed class.

    2) working for a fossil-fuel company and whose salary depends on the public not wising up during her or his lifetime.

    3) deliberately disingenuous.

    4) a religious fanatic who buys into the 2000-year-old lie that their favorite dead guy is due back tomoro, having disappointed a hundred previous generations of True Believers because he’s been waiting especially for YOU to be around when it happens, because that’s how important YOU are!

These categories are not mutually exclusive.

I quit driving over 25 years ago, walk to work and most other places i go, occasionally use public transit. Have not been in a vehicle other than a bus in over 5 years. i buy on average 1 shirt every 2 years, 3 pairs of pants per year, and socks and underwear a package of each every couple years as i need to replace worn out clothing. I live in an apartment, no air conditioner and haven’t felt it was hot enough yet this year to get out my fan, which i’ve used an average 5 days a year in the 15 years since i bought it. If climate change can still be limited most people would need to live my lifestyle, which would destroy our economy, which is why people won’t make the effort. Everyone stands to lose “too much” if they change the status quo, so they convince themselves that the science is wrong or that their choices aren’t that important with the result that future generations will suffer greater disasters because we are too self interested to truly make changes to mitigate the ongoing disaster.

Everybody complains about a water shortage – especially in the West. So, some are trying to be helpful by hastening polar icecaps melting and what happens? Lots of complaints. There is no pleasing some people!

Well, somebody should be feeling guilt, and it sure won’t be the GOP and its oblivious believers. Monty’s elected, and of course his guilt feelings won’t count for anything, but still. . .

“Liberal guilt” is exactly right. Libs are not happy unless they’re complaining about something. Which means they are NEVER happy.

Australia has been burning for several 100 million years, so much that various of our trees have evolved to need a bushfire in order for their seeds to germinate. Our bushfires are worse now because our fire reduction burns in winter have been reduced by budget cuts and greenies. 250 years ago massive bushfires did not occur because the Aboriginal population understood about fire reduction burns and were always creating burn offs. In about August 2019 (winter for us) a scheduled burn off was cancelled due to 2 greenies protesting as it would upset local birdlife. In Dec 2019 (summer) a massive bushfire went through and it burnt those birds, and the kangaroos and the koalas and the house of those 2 greenies.
