After the cocktail pianist had struggled for quite a while through inept performances of music requests from his audience, he asked, “Are there any more requests?”
One fellow, who likely well represented the opinion of many others in the room, called out, “Can you play ‘Far, Far Away’”?!
Oh that’s so true! I’ve always maintained that a violin in the hands of a child is a deadly weapon. We had our daughter practice in her bedroom with the door closed. If we had a garage, she’d be in there. The youngest son’s drums, on the other hand …
We had a trumpet player in our house. One day I heard him practicing and every now and then he’d stop and then resume play. As I walked by, I saw him nodding his head in an imagined rhythm and muttering, “Trombones come in here …”
When my daughter was learning to play the baritone we were living in a motor home while we were building our new house. Those were some long winter times.
My family was fortunate, when I began trumpet lessons in junior high. My bedroom was set off from the rest of the house, with three walls and two doors in between.

Had a beginner trombonist living next door… would have liked to find a nice desert for him. Some people have all the luck

And the better you get, the sooner you’ll be allowed to practice inside the house.

Expect the coyotes will have him by then. Nothing excites a coyote more than badly played fiddle.

Years ago I lived next door to a guy who played trumpet in Art Mooney’s orchestra. It was a beautiful sound when he practiced chromatics at home.

If everybody played an instrument, the world would be a better place, united by a common language
