Arlo’s football team (Auburn, Jimmy’s alma mater) is playing a “cupcake” team, typical of the Southeastern Conference at the beginning of the season. The betting “line” predicts Arlo’s team will win by 35 points.

Sometimes watching sports is just an excuse for sports snacks.

Thought everyone knew about Janis and her obsession with the point spread.

Apparently Arlo is planning to watch Ohio State vs Notre Dame.

So what would be the etymology of “line” in this meaning?

College sports. For those fans who think professional sports aren’t corrupt enough.

Janis runs book for extra income.

Simply, it is the point spread. One team will win by 35 points. You can bet on that team to win by 35 points or you can bet on the other team not to lose by more than 35 points. Typically, at the start of the season, betting is based on luck and best ‘pull it out of your b…’ numbers. Later the teams settle down and bets actually make sense.

I looked it up, I think they’re talking about 35-yard line kickoff. ¯\(ツ)/¯

I have no idea (nor do I care) about sports, especially professional spectator sports! My thought was 35 years being the age when men must become more diligent about what they eat! I am 75 and wish I had followed a better lifestyle. Even earlier than 35! So, I guess this comic speaks to different people about different things! Imagine! (Apologies to John Lennon)

Auburn/Mercer point spread is 31.5, Alabama/Utah State point spread is 41.5
