Gil must have had a pile riding on the over. Although with no idea of the score it could have been irrelevant either way.

“Only” 40 yards for a high schooler? Kaz is overruling head coach Gil to lead Milford to defeat? And then taking a job with Coach A-hole next year? Sounds like he’s already on the A-hole payroll.

10 seconds should be enough time to complete a 10-20 yard pass, call timeout and give high school kicker a higher percentage chance. Unless of course Gil didn’t save a timeout. But in that case, there’s still a sideline pass option. Would Hooper prefer to kick from the left or right hashmark? Or maybe there’s a flag?

Gil’s decision to kick the field goal is read meat for jackals like Marty Moon and, just a crazy guess, BHHLHM when after Valley Tech rolls their opponent 98-0, he reacts to the Milford loss and piles on.

It’s a miracle I woke up today after all those shots yesterday. What? I said it again?

Hooper couldn’t kick the ball because the field is on an ancient burial ground and it messed up his rhythm.

Wait, what? There’s a football game going on here? That’s it, I’m done. I want more disjointed plotlines and a healthy dose of “wokeness.” Drink up!

Gil is the head coach and Kaz overrules him? Come on Gil, grow a spine. Unless Kaz is the OC. Actually, I don’t think it’s ever been established what Kaz does for the team other than being his head assistant.

To be fair, going for the touchdown from around the 23 yard line in one play would have been a longshot. But bringing in Hollywood aging stuntman Sonny Hooper, who must be close to 100 years old by now didn’t seem very smart.

I wanted to post this yesterday but was afraid it’d be lost in the mass of comments. I think Henry is honoring the commenters with a few inside jokes like naming a character Pedro (after the mythical pool guy we’ve invented ) and making a peacock the mascot (given our frequent references to it as an example of how absurd some of the past strips were). I’m planning to keep reading Gil Thorp and liking what I like and not worrying about what I don’t. It takes only a few seconds to read, so it’s not like I wasted a lot of time if it’s not what I hoped it would be. And one last question: When was the last time we were happy with the strip? For almost the entirety of the Rubin era, we’ve been harping on the lame plotlines and inconsistencies in the artwork. In all reality (© Mr. Reality) this strip only exists for Mopman to make fun of in Mopped Up Thorp (© Mopman).

P4: Marty: Wait a second. There’s a flag on the field. It looks like the Bobcats were offside. Milford will have one more chande to go for the field goal from five yards closer on an untimed play.

I’m guessing this is not a conference game since it’s the opener. Although we don’t know who the opponent is. So this won’t crush the drive for second place. And a pretty lame turnout for the opener. Expectations are low for the team this year. Not even Fistpump Man or Sign Man bothered to show up. and speaking of showing up, a new edition of Mopped Up Thorp is now showing up.

Hey, we rip on the artwork all the time, but I want to give Whigham credit for P2 today. That is a super realistic rendition of a placekick snap.

This strip needs more Delaware Wing-T and less Spread.
