But why though? Mostly the sending them in the mail part. The Glover Brothers who don’t live in the area usually visit, Delray also visits, no one they know dosen’t live in town. Handwriting I get, she’s just trying to teach them to put in a bit of extra effort, even if she’s being a bit too self righteous about it, but when everyone you know is within walking or car distance or will be there in person, just… write the note at the party or whlie their in town and hand deliver it. It means more that way anyway.
It’s more personal and thoughtful to send letters and signed Christmas cards during the holidays (and birthdays). Just sending a text or ordering some cheap JPEG Xmas card via a phone app is cold, heartless and just plain lazy. Put some effort into it, Mr. or Mrs. Grinch, if you give 2-cents about who you are sending it to.
It’s still 60¢. It won’t increase until January 22, 2023. Then it will be 63¢. Any forever stamps that you buy now for 60¢ will be worth 63¢ on January 22.
I try to get out cards every year. Some years they may get there between Christmas and New Year, but at least I get them out! My hands are developing arthritis though, so this year I am typing an insert to put into the cards.
Paper was originally made with used clothing and other textile materials. We should go back to that process again, instead of throwing clothes in the trash….
(We used to churn butter while watching our television. Just shake the soured milk back and forth in the glass jar. Remember glass jars? Dangerous when dropped.)
I remember seeing a clip recently that showed the difficulties of the younger generations in depositing the greeting cards in the mail box. I think it was on ABC’s America’s Funniest Videos.
And mailboxes are hard to find these days – even at the PO. There are boxes outside – which I hate to use for security reasons, but where they used to have one inside is a large box for packages which most days is locked (and always locked after hours) and where the slots used to be in the wall to deposit mail is now an extra window area for employees to use.

Just have them sign the cards, but write the Thank-you notes. If you force them to do too much, they’ll grow up resenting it..

Marcy is a regular old fashioned woman, the daughter of Rosie O’Grady, even.

History lessons…. ANCIENT history.
(As far as they are concerned.)

How many kids today know how to write using Cursive. Many can’t even print very legibly.

(sigh) I’m old enough to remember when this would not have made any sense at all.
