Read the packaging. A package labeled āAmerican Slicesā has, in the fine print, that it is a āCheese Food.ā It isnāt actually cheese. In fact if you read the ingredients, itās not much different than motor oil with some additives.
Although not a vegan, Iāve tried some ānutritional yeastā which is supposedly a cheese substitute. Itās actually not bad, if you just think of it as its own thing. It is not remotely a substitute for Parmesan cheese, not even the Kraft type that comes in a shaker bottle. Certainly not for real Italian Parmesan from Parma.

My grandson was trying to fix some nachos in the microwave, but the cheese wouldnāt melt. I looked at the label and it was non-fat cheese.
