Maybe I was lucky—I spent my impressionable childhood years in the 1950s when the TV language was laundered (remember Carlin’s “seven words you can never say on television”) and sex wasn’t even hinted at! Even married couples … even if they were actually married in real life (i.e., Lucy and Desi) slept fully clothed in PJs and in separate beds. The raciest literature in my house was my mother’s “True” Romance magazines. It wasn’t until high school that I discovered my dad’s cache of Playboys.

The author is trying to say that the kids will get those things from television, but we have already seen violence in the Patterson household, bad language from the parents, and hints about the other thing (since you cannot show that in a comic strip). Every generation uses the entertainment industry as an excuse. In my father’s generation, they blamed the radio programs.

You obviously never watch AMERICAN TV. The vast majority of shows on Canadian TV are actually produced in the USA. Canadian TV (CTV, CBC, and Global) are more culture based. There are some Canadian drama shows, but not many.

Well that certainly didn’t apply to me. I learned it all on the playground like regular people do.

Looks like Ellie has no idea what her children are watching on television. Would you call that bad parenting?

The commercials pay for the worst of the contents on the idiot box.

British TV (BBC) has the best comedy. Love the tongue in cheek, sarcasm, and parodies…

And now you see exactly why we watch selected streams or something from our extensive DVD collection. I want to know what I am watching.

When I was a kid living on Shaw Island, WA we got 3 Canadian television channels using an antenna. I watched The Beachcombers and The Littlest Hobo and my mom loved The Tommy Hunter Show.

It does if you own a TV. Then your children learn all about violence, bad language, selfishness, narcissism, and even who they should have sex with. Three cheers for television.

Michael is not a bright bulb to begin with. There were strips when he demanded to know why the school he attended was not like the school portrayed on shows like Saved by the Bell.

My goodness. Those Canadian and American movies with their violence and sex. Whoever heard of any British character being in such a movie?

    Oh, right, James Bond.

We seem to have a new troll in our midst: Double Sided Scooby Snack

I not only recommend not feeding the troll, but I wouldn’t even read them, he’s that bad.
