We’ve had shrinkflation for years. When I was a kid, ice cream came in half gallon cartons (16 fluid ounces). Around 23-25 years ago they became 48 fluid ounces. These days I think they’re down to maybe 40.

As someone mentioned a few days ago, what is Father Time (or Year 2022.5) doing with a scythe? He’s not the Grim Reaper. Maybe the 2023 baby will arrive with an EV combine.

He should consider himself lucky, I can’t even find a good scythe to buy. Amazon was all out of them a month before Christmas.

Hershey bars went from a Nickle (that ages me) to between $1.50 to $2.00 per bar; but their size increased from 1.45 oz. to 1.55 oz.; but greed is still the driving factor!

My string cheese is now shortened by about one inch. Luckily the price increased to offset the shrink.

    Joe twitted that it’s transitory.

Nathan’s Hot Dogs. A pack of eight used to weigh 16 ounces. A few years back, it became 14. Recently, down to 12. My question is, are they using the smaller hot dogs in their hot dog eating contests?

I’m bought a cereal that came in 2 packs for $6. Now it’s the size of one pack for nearly $8.

One thing that is getting bigger is restaurant portions.

    So are the patrons.

The real term used to be “decontenting” which is more accurate. Why make up a new word when one already exists? One less syllable?

Wait until you find out that next year only has 300 days but your annual lease total is going up.

I’ve experience shrinkflation on a personal level, but didn’t just happen this year.

“Father Time” is usually distinguished from the personification of Death by carrying an hourglass or some kind of clock in addition to the Scythe. Given the “shrinkage”, this one is probably wearing a wristwatch somewhere. :)

According to the labels on an original bottle of Testors paint there are more fluid ounces in that than there are in a current bottle and it sold for 5 cents. The newer bottles cost more than $2.

Latest example I ran into was an email offer from one of the bigger office supply store chains. They were selling a carton of printer paper for what seemed to be a reasonable price. When I took a closer look at the offer, I saw that the carton had been reduced from the traditional 10 reams to eight.
