A well done painting can represent many hours of highly skilled labor. Of course, the artist wants to compensated for that. And selling through a middleman is going to raise the price even further. That doesn’t necessarily make it worth the price for a potential buyer, but it does help to put art prices in perspective, if only up to a point.
