When I was 6 or younger, I became obsessed with why I existed and how I came to be. I didn’t have the vocabulary Calvin has, so I stumbled to ask my mother about it several times. She thought I was asking about how she came to have me (biology/sex) and struggled to find words to explain that to a 5-6 year old. I bet a lot of young kids had deep questions they just couldn’t express.
At least the Mom didn’t yell at Calvin, despite being annoyed from being woken up in the middle of the night for nothing as usual. Though I’m sure after the third panel, she just said “Now go back to sleep. It’s after midnight.”
When our youngest daughter had a teenaged daughter of her own, she asked, “Mom, how come I’m still alive?” My wife answered, “Dear, you were very fortunate. Your father and I never both wanted to kill you at the same time.”

yup that age in a kids life when mom goes from being reassuring to reassuringly threatening. Wait a few years and slippers might fly…
