Or how about “Remember how much it hurt when you scraped your knee? DON’T RUN INTO TRAFFIC!” ?

Hobbes should win the entire prize and then move himself to a nice animal park among other tigers.

Money prizes for school competitions? Boy times changed. Back in the day you might get a coupon to the local dairy, or just a colorful bookmark.

Watterson said in The Anniversary Book he was disappointingly crushed when he had a similar contest as a schoolboy when he added Snoopy and the judges disallowed that even though he put in a lot of effort into making the poster.

Ooooh, this is a great story arc! It’s loosely based off when Bill Watterson was in grade school, and he got disqualified from a traffic safety poster contest due to his featuring a copyrighted character – i.e. Snoopy from “Peanuts”. And that Calvin, of course, has “the opposite problem” from what Bill had.

I can see the poster now: “BOY, 6, DIED OF TIGER ATTACK IN SCHOOL CONTEST OVER ARGUING ABOUT WHO GETS THE 5 BUCKS.”

I hated poster contests in school. (1960s) You weren’t given a choice to not do one . I didn’t do any of them and got an F’s. Mom and Dad weren’t happy.

To be safe, always make sure that tigers are well-fed.
