I admit, I found this funny (and way too realistic.)

People really, really need to begin these Q&A sessions by explaining that they’re specifically for questions, not “observations”. And for actual questions, not for talking and talking and tacking on a question at the end. Like talking about their cat for a minute ro two, and finally asking “do you have a cat?”I’ve been to tons of Q&A sessions, and anybody who doesn’t ask a question that actually is a question is the person everybody hates.

“Um, it’s actually NOT possible for Miki to use the healing purity wave at the end of the Dark Mana Saga because it’s clearly established at the start of the Crystal Emerald Saga that she needs to cry tears of joy before using it, and we clearly see that she was NOT crying in her fight with Mother Red. Thank you.”

An ‘Observation’ usually winds up being more of a ‘Critique’, right??!! … (Time to bolt!) … :)

Years ago, I went with a med school classmate to a Trek convention. Not my thing, but she wanted company. Walter Koenig (Chekov) was the GOH. When he took questions, one fan began to describe the inner workings of Federation Starships, then attempted to ask a technical question. You could see the irritation on Walter’s face, but he very kindly explained that he was an actor, and his role was a JOB. He wasn’t a fan interested in all the minutiae of the show. He also politely requested that he not get any more questions like that. Thankfully, the rest of the Q and A period went forward with the superfans holding it hostage.

Accurate as heck. This is a REALLY great arc honestly.. while I haven’t been to a con I have been to an evening with kevin smith once and this sort of thing did happen. And I suspect the last thing you want to hear at this kind of panel is “Just an observation”.

I worked with an anime convention where they openly warned large/celebrity panel question-askers in advance that any digressions of this “just an observation….” ilk from actual questioning would garner a mic cut, primarily for time constraints.

The second I read the third panel, I heard the voice of Comic Book Guy from “The Simpsons” in my head.

A long time ago at a Star Trek convention far far away I remember someone asking why they brought back Denise Crosby as her character’ daughter in a different time line. Before the panel could answer someone in the back yelled out, “She needs the money and they feel sorry for her.” The most interesting things happen at cons.
