PROgressives are “woke” — i.e., awake, alert and ready.

Conservatives proudly proclaim themselves the opposite of “woke” — i.e., COMATOSE

Those who ridicule being awake, alert and ready apparently prefer to be in a drunken stupor of hate-infused intoxication and a world of conspiratorial hallucinations and (their term) “alternative facts,” rather than the real world-reality of being awake, alert and ready.

Admittedly some of this woke is simply insane, yes, let’s quit keeping criminals in jail and let them all out on bail regardless of some of the offenses. Stupid.

A person who is woke is typically considered to be sensitive to and aware of racial or social discrimination or injustice that they themselves aren’t experiencing. Is that really a bad thing, it is called being nice.

Those of us old enough to remember how awful and narrow-minded fascism was are truly disgusted by the extreme right’s attempt to revive it and cruelly force it on a free country.

Just like we rid the world of the Nazi ideology, so too must we rid the world of wokeism.

I suppose all those supporters of being “woke” are in favor of sending a convicted rapist to a women’s prison the moment they identify as a woman. And giving puberty blockers to pre-pubescent minors. And firing anyone who “deadnames” someone. Oh, and let’s not forget that men are now anti-trans if they refuse to date a man who identifies as a woman.

I’m beginning to wonder if the woke culture was conceived by the same people who flooded our ecosystems with estrogen-like substances. If there truly is a change in sexual characteristics showing up in the human population, woke culture would be a good way to distract from looking into what is causing it.

“Woke”, much like ‘politically correct’, is simply showing consideration for your fellow American. conservatives try to demonize those terms. Do you oppose showing consideration, or oppose your fellow Americans?

Somehow, this reminds of ‘The Twilight Zone’- we’re finally confronting the horror of having actual fascists running some of our states and trying to bring their politics to the entire nation. And then we turn around and have to face the even worse horror that millions of Americans, including some of our neighbors, SUPPORT the fascists.

It seems that republicans CANNOT define “woke” beyond it being what “progressives” believe and espouse.

Railing against “wokeism” therefore is a blanket “response” to ANYTHING the progressive “Left” tends to believe.

This allows the “Right” to criticize things “said” by the Left without actually thinking or defining exactly WHAT they’re opposing.

“Woke” is an awareness of racial and other forms of discrimination. That’s it. Sadly, those who would fight to preserve such discrimination have tried to turn the work into something it is not.

We need to speak out on wherever racism, xenophobia and/or LGBTQ+ phobia rears its ugly head. Pastor Martin Niemoller said it best, “In Germany, they first came for the communists, but I wasn’t a communist so I didn’t speak up. Then they came for the Jews, but I wasn’t a Jew so I didn’t speak up. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, but I wasn’t a Trade Unionist so I didn’t speak up. Then they came for the Catholics, but I was a Protestant so I didn’t speak up. Then they came for me, and by then no one was left to speak up.”
