My sister used to do that, right up until the time she forgot where she hid the last piece and lost out on dessert because of it, lol.

As a child in the 1950’s, my entire 6-member family would do jigsaw puzzles. At least 4 of us would palm a piece to finish the picture. We would slowly give up and relinquish our piece. Mom tricked us every time and finished the puzzle herself. She was great, and I think of her every time I start a puzzle.

I’m not that much into jigsaw puzzles but I would assume that finishing the puzzle would be the easy part, there are fewer pieces to work with and it should be more obvious where everything goes. Starting the puzzle, on the other hand…

Tis a hollow victory when someone else did most of the work.

I did that to my nephew once. He liked hiding a piece so he could put in the last one and finish the puzzle, so I stole a piece and took it home with me, then brought it back the next day. My sister said, “Uncle found the piece! We looked everywhere, where was it?”

“In my pocket. I took it home yesterday. I’m the Evil Uncle. Mwa ha ha ha haaaa!”

My nephew did this on family puzzle night. We gave him a nice funeral.

My wife and I were missing the last piece of a puzzle we’d been putting together, and we hunted all over the floor for it (a few pieces had been knocked off the table during a previous puzzling session, so it was reasonable to assume we’d overlooked one). When it didn’t turn up after a diligent search, it occurred to me to check the plastic bag which the pieces originally came in. Mystery solved!
