I was of the impression that the tower was built correctly (above ground), but over the years started tilting due to soft ground underneath. Modern stability techniques have stabilized the structure while, at the same time, keeping the tourist-favourite tilt.
Yes, a guy in weird, futuristic clothing shows up shouting in a language nobody even speaks, yet. They’re definitely gonna listen to his construction advice.
While touring China in 2007 I took a cruise down the Yangtze River before it was dammed. Centuries old villages were going to be flooded, and high-rise apartments were being built on the sides of bordering mountains to replace the villages.
I looked at some of the new buildings and, being a structural engineer, hoped that the foundation designer did his homework and founded the building on piles; if not, that building would slide into the river after the dam is filled.
Wouldn’t you know that a few years later I saw a news blurb about that exact thing happening. I don’t know whether that was the same building, but it made me wonder about sound engineering and safety concerns in China.
Worked at a restaurant, wedding reception, cake arrived. It was a 5 layer Italian cream cake and it was tilted. Not by intention but the van taking a hard turn, LOL! It stayed in the same position luckily.
Btw, in the ealy 20th century. The city of Pisa was offered by an construction company to tear down and rebuild the Leaning Tower free of charge. Pisa declined

Monty’s meddling is what gave it the tilt.

The tower isn’t the only thing that isn’t on the level here.

Now we know why the tower leans. I hope his time travel watch is not a bubble off.

Just tell half the work crew to stand on the side that will be tilted furthest from the ground while the other work.

In English, ‘Americans’ is a proper noun.

I see it is already leaning, so it’s not Monty’s fault (for once).

SO IT WAS HIS FAULT????

Monty’s intervention, I feel safe in saying, only exacerbates a problem that would exist anyway.
And it’s not getting better, although somewhat stabilized….
