Empty G was on 60 Minutes last night lying away. Said she never dissed the Parkland shooting victims. Leslie Stahl showed Empty’s tweets and she started babbling about her taxes!!
No kidding. I took a survey that asked where we got most of our news. The number of people who claimed they only got their news from a certain source was flabbergasting (since auto-correct didn’t offer any alternative words, yes, flabbergasting must be a word).
I don’t know how it could be done but this country (and world) needs a reliable source of factual information. Maybe something that works independently like the BBC or Wikipedia. There is a good speculative fiction book Infomacracy by Malka Older that imagines such an organization called Information that serves just that purpose. It is a bit of a blend of Facebook news feeds, mass surveillance and verification, Scopes fact checking, deep fake detection, and election administration. A great trilogy.
There used to be something known as a “Sensationalist” newspaper—when the Truth was reported fully in embarrassing/crazy/stupid/shocking/amazing/awe-inspiring/proof that rich & poor people are the same everywhere/graphic detail by big names in the news service who had unquestionable evidence—this type of news attracted the most public attention back then. That was before the bad guys decided to sue everyone involved in printing the truth because the truth of their actions made them look bad publicly; and that hurt their profits—er—feelings!

Cute, but Lio is definitely the type who would enjoy the rumors and innuendo.
