It must be nice to have had a hugging mom. Mine didn’t care for giving hugs. Her usual contact was at the end of a paddle, or shoe over my bottom. She did hug me once. I was returning home after being away for 7 months. She gave me the most bodacious hug ever. I was shocked. And, ever so pleased. Mom…I remember you well.

I remember a couple days after my mom passed away I saw my buddy’s mom at a fest, and she was telling me how bad she felt for me and gave me a mom hug tha I’ll never forget. Thanks, mrs. C

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! Another angle to consider: Not all moms are good moms. Some kids (little and big) only feel a lot of hurt on mother’s day when all they see are messages about a family situation that just doesn’t apply to them. So while I will be wishing a sincere happy mother’s day to many people today (my own mom included!), I think it’s important to keep in mind that this day – and its counterpart in june – are not universally happy days for everyone in our lives.

I’d draw the line at hugging the pig, unless he’s been well-washed. The same goes for the cow.
